Ingredients

  • 1 pound Coleman Mild Sweet Italian Pork Sausage
  • 1 15-ounce tub whole-milk ricotta
  • 2 cups mozzarella, shredded, divided
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup red onions, diced
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 26-ounce jar your favorite store-bought marinara sauce or homemade
  • I package no-boil lasagna noodles
  • ½ cup Parmesan, shredded
  • ¼ cup fresh basil leaves, thinly sliced, for garnish

Instructions

1
Heat oven to 425° F. In medium bowl, mix ricotta and 1 cup mozzarella. Set aside.
2
In large heavy bottomed skillet over medium heat, add butter and onion, cook until onion softens and becomes translucent, about 5 minutes. Add sausage, and cook, stirring frequently, until cooked through. Add salt and pepper and stir until combined.
3
In lasagna pan, spread thin layer of marinara sauce on the bottom, cover with lasagna noodles. Top noodles with ricotta-mozzarella. Sprinkle sausage mixture over cheese. Add another layer of noodles, then fully cover noodles with remaining sauce. Top lasagna with remaining mozzarella and the Parmesan.
4
Cover lasagna with aluminum foil and bake 15 minutes. Remove cover. Bake 30 minutes longer or until pasta is tender and mixture is browned on edges. Top with basil and serve.

New To Lasagna? Here’s The Pro Tips To Remember:

Build up those flavors!1 hour sausage lasagna recipe

  • Don’t Skimp on the Sauce: A flavorful sauce is the heart and soul of a good lasagna. Whether you prefer a classic marinara or a meaty Bolognese, make sure it’s rich, well-seasoned, and plentiful. Don’t be afraid to simmer your sauce for a while to allow the flavors to deepen and meld.
  • Layer in the Love: Lasagna is all about the layers, and each one should contribute to the overall flavor profile. Consider incorporating different cheeses like ricotta, mozzarella, and Parmesan for a variety of textures and tastes. Don’t forget the herbs! Fresh basil, oregano, and parsley add brightness and depth.
  • Meat Matters: Ground meat adds richness and depth to your lasagna. A classic combination is ground beef and Italian sausage, but feel free to experiment with other options like ground veal.

Nailing the texture.

  • Pasta Perfection: Choose the right kind of pasta. No-boil lasagna noodles are convenient, but traditional lasagna sheets offer a slightly different texture. Be sure to cook your pasta al dente if you’re using traditional noodles.
  • Cheese Choice is Key: A blend of cheeses is essential for a perfect lasagna. Ricotta provides creaminess, mozzarella adds gooey meltiness, and Parmesan offers a salty, nutty bite.
  • Don’t Overcrowd: Avoid layering your lasagna too densely. Leave a bit of space between the noodles to allow the sauce to distribute evenly and prevent a dense, heavy final product.

  • Even Baking: Ensure your oven is properly preheated and use an oven thermometer to guarantee accurate temperatures. This will help your lasagna cook evenly and prevent burning.
  • Rest and Revel: Allow your lasagna to rest for about 10-15 minutes after baking. This allows the layers to settle and the flavors to meld, making it easier to serve and even more delicious.
